Star Isabelle Fuhrman recently offered a brief update on the sequel detailing that it's still in the "early stages," but she's read the script and thinks it's fantastic. Here's what she had to say: "It's early stages, but it's definitely rumbling. I just went to my first horror convention, I think it was two or three weeks ago, and it was so cool to meet so many fans of Orphan. People dressed up came from all over to see me, and to talk to me about the movie, and ask questions. For me, it feels like such a great thing to make another film for the fans, because they seem to really want it. I would love to do it, and the script that I read was fantastic. So, I hope that we get to make the movie. Everything is always in stages, takes some time, but it would be great. It would be really, really great." (5/5/25)

Isabelle Fuhrman officially returns for this sequel. Also back is director William Brent Bell and writer David Coggeshall. Producer Norman Golightly, Co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment was quoted saying: "Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the ‘Orphan’ saga. With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike." (11/4/24)

This project is in the very early development stage, as previous director William Brent Bell revealed in an interview that he's actively working on a new sequel for the film. He was quoted saying: "I definitely think Orphan as a franchise has so many variations, and unlike other franchises, whether it’s a doll or a masked killer, she’s a real character on screen like Hannibal Lecter and she’s never going to age. So we really can do it, and we’re only going to get better at it. And Isabelle loves it so much. So, as long as we get excited about the stories, there are so many directions to go, and we’re developing a third one now. When I saw the writer [David Coggeshall] at a screening of Lord of Misrule a few weeks ago, we talked about his new movie, The Family Plan, and he said, “I just want to write Orphan movies because there’s such a freedom. You get to kind of do anything.” And now that we’ve gone another direction with the second one, the franchise’s rulebook has been opened up to where anything is possible." He goes on to add... "David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who created the first one, was very much involved in the second one, and he was like, “The Orphan movie is about the twist. That’s what it has to have.” And knowing where we are in the process already, I’m extremely excited about the twists and turns that we have in store." (12/14/23)

Actress Isabelle Fuhrman is reportedly interested in reprising her role once again.

This is the third installment in the Orphan trilogy, with the first film released in 2009 and made almost $80-million on a $20-million budget. This was followed by the prequel, which came out in 2022 and made $44-million on an even smaller budget.
