Scary Movie

Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer, the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.

Paramount Pictures distributes in the US.

Previously had a June 12th 2026 theatrical release before getting pushed forward a week. (3/3/26)

Actress Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) will reportedly be in a scene that parodies a sequence in Terrifier 3, "specifically skewering the mall scene in which Art the Clown blow up a group of children. The sequence was initially cut from the film but has since been reinstated in a trimmed-down edit. Rose is drenched in blood during the scene that also features an appearance by Terrifier producer Michael Leavy." (2/9/26)

Several actors return to the franchise, though some may be playing different characters. The returning actors include: Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Regina Hall, Anna Faris, Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams.

Directed by Michael Tiddes  (A Haunted House, A Haunted House 2, Fifty Shades of Black, Half Baked: Totally High).

Marlon Wayans revealed in an interview that he'll return as the "Shorty" character from the first two movies. He also goes on to detail their approach towards the comedy and horror genres and how much has changed since the last time they worked on the movies, saying: "I think you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror has changed, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted. I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. That's how we constructed the movie so we could talk about it all. It's a conversation with these funny characters, and they just so happen to be going through this. The more pressure you put on characters and the more horrific the situations, that's when you really get to know the characters." (9/11/25)

Co-writer Marlon Wayans spoke briefly about what movies may be spoofed in the upcoming movie, saying: "I mean, you know, I’m just a fan of the whole genre, man. I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one. I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners." (9/9/25)

Actresses Regina Hall and Anna Faris are returning as Brenda and Cindy. The duo were quoted saying: "We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again)." Filming is aimed to begin sometime this October. (8/15/25)

Rick Alvarez along with Marlon Wayans, Keenan Ivory Wayans and Shawn Wayans are back to write and produce this new movie. The brothers were quoted saying: "We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion." Filming begins sometime next year. (10/29/24)

This marksthe first time the Wayans brothers — Marlon, Shawn, and Keenan Ivory — are reuniting in 18 years to write an original script.

The first movie was a box office success, pulling in $278-million worldwide on a budget of less than $20-million. This resulted in a sequel getting greenlit immediately and releasing just a year later. The franchise would ultimately spawn five movies in total, with the last one releasing back in 2013.

This is a "reboot" of the 2000's movie with the same name from the Wayans brothers.
