Director Christophe Gans was quoted saying: "Return to Silent Hill is a mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, they’re willing to go to hell to save someone. I’m delighted to have the wonderful talents of both Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that I hope will both satisfy and surprise fans of Silent Hill." (3/15/23)

One of the film's producers was quoted saying: "Christophe and I have been working closely with our partners at Konami, as they update the video game, to also create a version of Silent Hill for the theatrical audiences of today. You will still find the iconic monsters – but there will also be new designs. We are confident that this new film and Konami’s updated game together will propel the franchise forward for years to come." (3/15/23)

Details of the film including the synopsis have been revealed online recently. The info was found on a foreign site and translated to English, so some details may not be translated properly, so keep that in mind. I've added the synopsis above. The site also lists actor Jeremy Irvine as the star. (3/1/23)

Ashland Hill Media Finance is set to co-finance the project, with filming reportedly happening sometime soon. (2/15/23)

Konami announced in a promotional video (posted below) that this project is officially moving forward and Christophe Gans is indeed back to direct. It's said that the story will borrow from the Silent Hill 2 game and the idea of "the myth of Orpheus and whether a man can go deep in hell to bring back the soul of person he loved the most in his life." It's also said that it will be more psychological horror and be set in modern times, but also be "very true to the video game." In terms of the monsters we'll see in the game, one of the producers was quoted saying: "The monsters are also one of the key elements that the fans are waiting for. And we are updating those in a way that the creation is similar, but they will be striking." They also revealed that Pyramid Head will return in this sequel and we'll see some new redesigns for the monsters that'll give the audience that "wow effect." Lastly, Gans added that "if we want to keep that link with the audience, we have to be perfectly aware that everything has changed in 15 years. Everything has been washed away. We have to bring back something, you know, very surprising." (10/19/22)

Christophe Gans offered an update on the project in a recent interview, where he revealed that the script has already been written, saying: "There were the Covid-19 years which finally forced us to stay home. I took the opportunity to write two scripts, [including] the script for a new Silent Hill movie that is totally independent from the two previous movies made and respects the way Silent Hill has evolved." Adding... "Most of the time, these are stand-alone stories. Silent Hill is a bit like The Twilight Zone, the fourth dimension, a place where anything and everything can happen. I worked on a new Silent Hill which is a Silent Hill of the year 2023 – because the film would be released next year – and not a Silent Hill as I imagined it in 2006. It is a Silent Hill for today’s audiences while being ultra respectful of the saga. For me, it was important to design a Silent Hill for today’s audience. It’s clear that today’s horror movies don’t look like the horror movies of 2006, and so much the better. Not that the horror films of 2007 weren’t good, but every genre goes through an evolution. I’m trying to take into account what I’ve seen recently, what’s most original and amazing in horror films, and see if Silent Hill has the seeds, or even the expression of that. Silent Hill has always been an unusual game and ahead of its time." Keep in mind that this doesn't mean that the movie is moving forward, it just means that a script is being worked on and it's still up to the studio if they want to greenlight it. (6/8/22)

Director Christophe Gans revealed in a recent French interview that he's working on developing this new sequel. He added... "The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it’s time to make a new one." (2/2/20)

Christophe Gans (Silent Hill) is back as director.

This is the third Silent Hill movie and the story is said to be based off the second game.
