Congrats! You've braved A Quiet Place! The movie succeeded in scaring most fans and rightfully garnered praise from both viewers and critics alike. The spooky setup where a family battles creatures with incredible hearing kept everyone glued to their seats and chances are you're eager to find more equally scary films to watch. Here's my personal list of the 5 best horror movies to watch alone or with a friend (I'd recommend with a friend). Alternatively, if you need a breather from the spookiness you can always log online at the Virgin Casino and try your luck with some games.
1. The Exorcist
This is arguably the most disturbing and spine-chilling movie that dealt with the controversial topic of exorcism and personally one of my favorites of all time. The story is loosely based on the actual events and focuses on a young girl who becomes possessed, resulting in the Catholic church to send in priests to perform an exorcism. The rest is cinematic history.
2. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Here we have another good film involving exorcism and yet another disturbing entry to the list. The story revolves around a girl who gets demonically possessed by several evil spirits. What makes the movie a bit more unique is the fact that is actually goes to trial, where science and the supernatural are argued in court, which is something you don't see often in horror.
3. Bug
Taking a break from possession flicks is this small mind-bending psychological thriller from The Exorcist director William Friedkin that digs deep into the mental state of a couple people in a motel. The beautiful Ashley Judd stars in the film as a waitress, who gets involved with a conspiracy theorist that believes his body's infested with bugs. Soon she begins experiencing the same delusion, which ultimately leaves them questioning their sanity and isolated from the rest of the world.
4. The Silence of the Lambs
The winner of five academy awards, this masterful serial killer thriller follows a female FBI agent seeking help from an imprisoned cannibal in hopes of catching a crazed serial killer who skins his victims. While the Hannibal Lecter character was first shown in the 1986 film Manhunt, it wasn't until this movie that actor Anthony Hopkins made Hannibal Lecter a household name.
5. Jaws
Moving from the supernatural and serial killers and delving into creatures of "animal run amok" movies is this classic killer shark film from famed Hollywood director Steven Spielberg. The movie brings forth fear in another level thanks to the movie's great performances and the deadly and very real threat of a killer shark. It essentially made going to the beach feel like a nightmare.
