Til Death Do Us Part (2023)

REVIEWER RATING:
7/10

A beautiful evening. A stunning bride (Natalie Burn). And an eagerly happy groom (Ser’Darius Blain) alongside an extensively long line of ushers waits at the altar for a grand ceremony to join these two lovebirds in holy matrimony. But after zooming in on Natalie Burn’s fading smile before she begins that joyful walk down the aisle, the hesitation emerges, setting a runaway bride scenario in motion.

Cut to the warm sandy beaches of Puerto Rico, the now blissful duo is united and clearly in love while frolicking in the water, dancing the night away and making new friends at the local bar. As they celebrate their honeymoon over drinks with Jason Patric (husband) and Nicole Arlyn (wife), the motive of each unnamed character is still a huge mystery. And more of a reason to continue on this comedic horror adventure.

Jumping back to the bride after cutting out of her wedding, she arrives at an illuminated wooded cabin with recollection and personal paraphernalia. The bride unwinds with champagne and vinyl records, expecting an abundance of angry groomsmen to reach this destination hideout…the place where everything will go completely haywire in contention via Kill Bill battles and extreme cynicism lead by the jeering Best Man (Cam Gigandet).

Upon locating the rogue bride, all the groomsmen arrive at the isolated cottage still decked out in their tuxedos, grins and a little more attitude. The best man immediately steals the spotlight with his deadpan wit and charm, sauntering up to the door with the handsome allure of a sinister snake waiting to snap. With his man-squad stalking the surroundings for a clearer entrance, a few stage stealers shine upon the misfits in the bunch such as Big Sexy and T-Bone. Their constant banter and deliverance of kookiness almost has you rooting for them against this sudden bad-ass bitch of a bride who begins her hunt upon these would be killers sent to fetch her for the jilted groom left behind.

The skilled combat scenes are massively intense, convincing and crazy as fuck. (Men – watch your crotch when attacking a ruthless female with no qualms on using a blade with the most damaging intentions!) Burn brings her A-game with each thrusting kick, punch and soaring stabs against the obviously well-trained brutes on her doorstep. Throughout the quick conversations of former friendship gone awry, this still doesn’t feel personal as much as it feels professional. Why all the havoc? Why is she a target? What the hell is going on? You’ll wonder why she jetted from the nuptials, why she is being pursued by a group of killers and why all the flash forwards to the bride/groom interactions with this new bestie couple in Puerto Rico? Or…are they flash backs?

Well, I’m not going to tell you. In the spirit of secrecy dealing with spoilers, I promise you won’t be disappointed in the finale. But until then, enjoy this crazy ride through bridezilla-gone-bezerk. After all, love makes you do crazy things, right?

OVERALL:
Til Death Do Us Part is an action packed, blood-fueled frenzy between a bride who wants out and the groom who fights to change her mind.  While there is undoubtedly a slew of hidden motives as to why the night turns from “you may now kiss the bride” to “you may now kill the bride", the murder fest of agility set to doo wop music (Rockin’ Robin and Little Bitty Pretty One), make the length of drawn-out conversations more bearable. Even with the prolonged confrontation during the grand finale taking its sweet time to climax, there is no denying the actual onscreen chemistry between this bride, her groom and the entire ensemble of impressive performances that create a whirlwind of marriage mayhem.
