No official plot yet, but we'll likely see the zombie virus spread outside of Vegas and Snyder has indicated that we may see the return of the Dieter character.

According to a recent article this sequel is no longer in development, along with the animated spinoff that was also reportedly in development at Netflix. Both projects were said to be "quietly cancelled." (8/7/24)
Zack Snyder offered a minor update on the project recently, where he revealed that while he still intends to make the movie, it's currently on the backburner as he works on the upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon for Netflix. Here's what he had to say: "As far as the Army Universe goes though, it’s still alive and well in my mind. I know exactly what I would do. It really depends on how we try to figure out how we go forward with Rebel Moon and the Rebel Moon universe. It’s not a small-time commitment, Rebel Moon stuff. A sci-fi thing at this scale does require a lot of attention to make it all make sense." (3/22/23)
Zack Snyder revealed minor details on what fans may expect from the sequel, indicating that we may see the return of the Dieter character, saying: "the real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don't see him die on camera, and there's still some time left. I won't tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let's just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there's a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline." (10/27/21)
While this project is announced, it will be a while before it even goes into development, as Zack Snyder will not be working on it until he finishes his next project with Netflix (a sci-fi adventure movie called Rebel Moon). (7/21/2021)
Aside from this sequel, a prequel movie titled Army of Thieves is set to hit Netflix sometime this Fall, while an anime spinoff series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas will also be released sometime early next year. (7/21/2021)
Zack Snyder returns to co-write with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves) and will be directing again.
This is a sequel to 2021's Army of the Dead.
