Follows Zoe (Ariana Greenblatt), a teenager who loves true-crime podcasts. When her parents exile her to Shady Pines Camp for the summer, she thinks she's stumbled on a real-life murder when camp counselor Liz mysteriously disappears. Counselor Amy (Ella Purnell) says that Liz just had a family emergency, but Zoe suspects that she's been killed by fellow counselor Ted (Billy Magnussen). He's handsome, he's charming, he owns a van, and he has no social media presence: is he the perfect boyfriend, or the perfect suspect?

Actor Billy Magnussen had a recent interview where he talked a bit about the project, saying: "There are these genre-blending elements that happen in films now. This is a female version of Superbad. Every good film has a good premise that’s an easy understanding. This is about young girls realizing people in their lives that they thought were safe can be dangerous, and that's terrifying. Someone I believed has always been safe is actually terrifying, and Hot Ted is about that. They can't decide whether the camp counselor is awesome or if he's a serial killer." Adding... "But it's scary! But again, it's fun. It's young girls getting into their womanhood. You went through that part of your life. It's absurd." (5/22/25)
This marks the feature film directorial debut of Hannah Levy, who until now mostly directed various segments for SNL.
This is a horror comedy.
