PROJECT DETAILS:

It's been 10 years since the last update on this rumored project. There's been a lot of back and forth with additional rumors over the years, but nothing concrete and the reason appears to be due to copyright issues. That's according to New Line president and CCO Richard Brener, who had an interview on a variety of projects, where he revealed the following when asked if another movie was in the horizon: "We hope so. It’s complicated because of the rights." Apparently the Wes Craven estate owns the US rights, while New Line owns the international rights, which makes things a bit complicated. Either way, knowing Hollywood it's only a matter of time before we see another movie. (4/2/25)

This project was rumored to be in talks in August of 2015. At the time it was said that it would be scripted by David Leslie Johnson (Red Riding Hood, Wrath of the Titans, The Conjuring 2).

It's said that the studio aims to ignore the 2010 remake.

A remake of the 1984 film from Wes Craven.
