No official plot yet, but the original starred "Sam Neill as a spy who returns home from the field to his wife (Isabella Adjani) and son. All is not quiet on the marital front as the wife asks for a divorce and the couple next descends into a destructive cycle that not only includes infidelity and neglect but spins into murder, a tentacled alien creature and doppelgangers."

A rumor has been floating around recently that actress Margaret Qualley (The Substance) is reportedly to be in talks to star in the film. (2/2/26)
This project is in the very early stages of development, as a script has yet to be written. Despite that, it's reportedly getting a lot of attention from various studios, including A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony and Warner Bros.. It's said that "the reception to the pitches has been extremely positive, with execs talking about the “batshit” and “out there” story but also its strong commercial potential. How to market the eventual movie is also part of the conversations." (6/12/24)
For this remake it's reported that filmmaker Parker Finn is aiming for something "more expansive and elevated but also still intimate."
Actor Robert Pattinson produces via his Icki Eneo Arlo banner and may have a role in the film, depending on how the script and schedules develop over time.
Produced, written, and directed by Parker Finn (Smile).
The original movie was neither a hit nor was well-received at the time, but has since become somewhat of a cult film among genre fans.
This is a remake of the 1981 movie with the same name that starred Sam Neill from Polish filmmaker Andrzej Żuławski. It's said that the original movie was a reaction to the director's own crumbling marriage.
