No official plot yet, but it's rumored to take place years after the last movie in a much different America and revolve once again on the Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) character.

Creator James DeMonaco gave an update on the project, essentially revealing that he's turned the script into producer Jason Blum and it's now up to him to decide whether the project moves forward or not. Here's what DeMonaco had to say: "I just finished a script. My producer, Sébastien Lemercier, has read multiple drafts, given me notes. We just handed it to Jason [Blum]. I’m really happy with it. I hope they like it. I think it’s cool and fun. We’re hoping next year would be great to shoot, maybe the end of this year if timing works out. But now it’s with the powers that be, so we’ll see what happens." He goes on to talk a bit about what fans can expect from the movie and the return of Frank Grillo's character: "People’s favorite character might be coming back, I can say without naming who that is; a couple of people who could be. But someone’s coming back who I love and I think the audience loves. Then we create some real great female heroes in this one. There’s some really amazing women. We’ve had some great women in the past, but real warrior women come forth here in a way that we haven’t really explored on Purge night. It’s been really fun to write. And I’m writing with my wife, so I’m getting a nice female perspective, and that’s been really fun." (7/17/25)
Franchise creator James DeMonaco offered more details on the movie in a recent interview, saying: "It’s not completely different than previous movies, but it’s a new America that we’re entering into. In ‘The Forever Purge,’ America kind of collapsed, and it’s really kind of mapped itself according to different ideologies. The states are based on sexuality, religion and ideology. So we’ve broken apart and the state of discord is at its worst. We enter The Purge in that world." (6/7/23)
Frank Grillo offers a minor update on the project essentially reiterating what was previously posted saying: "[I’ve] got one more [Purge movie] left. James [DeMonaco] has the script. It focuses on the Leo Barnes character, and he wants to direct it. We’re working with Universal to see if we can pull this off before I’m in the old folks’ home." (12/22/22)
This project is said to be in development with franchise creator James DeMonaco (who recently completed the script). (9/17/21)
It's said that Frank Grillo's character "Leo Barnes" will return. His character was first seen in The Purge: Anarchy as an off duty LAPD sergeant looking to get revenge against the man that killed his son in a hit and run (not during the Purge). He returned in the next film, The Purge: Election Year, as the head of security for senator "Charlie Roan," and eventually becoming the new Director of the Secret Service.
Rumored to be set several years after the events of the last movie, where America is taken in a "whole new direction."
This is the sixth, and possibly final, installment in The Purge franchise.
