The original film was about a guy with extraordinary psychic abilities, who hunts down a group of "scanners" with similar abilities that want to take over the world.

This project has been dead for years. It was last reported that Darren Lynn Bousman would direct, but he ultimately left the project. He later revealed in an interview that he did not want to make the movie without Cronenberg's approval, which he never got. However, it still may not be entirely dead, asHBO announced in 2022 that a television series was in development, so we may eventually see it on the small screen. (8/13/24)
Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II - IV) was reportedly attached to direct in '07, but has since left to pursue other projects.
Lion's Gate will distribute.

One of the original rights holders, Pierre David, revealed the idea of the remake came out of the development of a TV series version of the story.

It is likely that David Cronenberg will not be involved with this film since he has expressed disinterest with the whole remake idea.
