CURRENT STATUS

3/04/07
This film was rumored to happen for years, but considering its been a couple years since we last heard anything new on it, it's safe to say that it's not happening. Most likely a proper script never appeared.

LATEST NEWS

6/08/05
Actor Tony Todd recently spoke with Fango about his upcoming projects, where he revealed how the new Candyman movie is rumored to be a versus film.

10/13/04
Actor Tony Todd spoke with a site called Milenko 500 about his past and present projects, and also going over the status of the next Candyman film. Here's what he said:

"I've been meeting with Clive, his representatives, and the production team. I know their was a rumor when the whole "Freddy vs. Jason" film came out that Miramax wanted to do a "Candyman vs. Hellraiser". I think Clive wisely opted against that. He didn't want either of those 2 characters to sell out for a commercial gain. He is very strongly interested in "CANDYMAN 4". That problem that is going on much like many backstage workings, is determining who owns the "CANDYMAN" franchise. Which is strange to me because it's Clive's Character? But in dividing the first "CANDYMAN's" profits, the ownership went from Propaganda, to Sony, to Columbia, then to Artisan. Then Artisan became Lions Gate. As soon as it's all straightened out and it's determined who has to be paid before the film even gets written, then the movie will move forward. But he has every intension and knows how much these fans really appreciate a true horror classic. We've been in active discussion about doing it. I know it will take place in New England. It will take place in a woman's college. I know we're going to use the seasonal elements such as snow. We're just waiting for the Go-Ahead to move forward. Hopefully it will be shot sometime next year. We're not gonna let it go. And if for some reason we can't get the character back from the powers that be, then we're going to re-create it. One way or another, Clive and I will be working together again. I can absolutely assure the fans of that."

3/09/04
Tony Todd got to chat with one of the guys from Fango about the film, saying "Right now we’re prepping a fourth CANDYMAN film. It’s going to be big-budget—we’re looking at $25 million. There have been a lot of successful horror films made since we did the last movie, and Clive [Barker] and I have had three or four meetings about the film, talking about storyboarding ideas."

He then goes on to reveal a little about the story... "It’s going to be set in New England, and the initial image will be of Candyman in a blizzard. The story is about a double identity. I can tell you that it’s set at an all-girls college where there is a descendant of Candyman—a professor who doesn’t actually know who or what Candyman is."

He also explains how it will have nothing to do with the previous Candyman film, which even he was disappointed with... "It’s going to be stand-alone. There will be no number attached to it.”

When talking about Clive Barker's involvement he reveals that he'll be, "absolutely hands-on -- he’s a story consultant and an executive producer."

DETAILS

- Tony Todd revealed at a Movies Convention in LA a while back that the film is likely to come out of New Line rather than Artisan this time.
- This is the obvious third sequel in the Candyman series.

I think that there should be another Canyman, only this time a prequel to explain to the viewers what really happened to Candyman, and maybe learn about his past and see how he became the mythical legend people are afraid of.

Candyman is one of my favorites and one of the first horror movies I've seen and loved. I'm only 17. I was born and raised on horror movies by my parents, and only the best ones. But with the way horror movies are going lately, I would hate to see them butcher such a great movie.
I haven't enjoyed a horror movie made after like..2003 so I highly doubt that this will be good.
I'm hoping it's dead.

I wouldn't have minded to see another Candyman sequel, eventhough you're right, most of the other sequels were only decent, but I still just want to see Tony Todd do his thing.
