Superstition (1982)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

I read a little about this movie before seeing it and it seemed somewhat promising. Good thing I got to see it, because it really isn't a bad film. There are decent effects and some creepy moments. The plot is basically about this family who moves into an old home that is owned by a church. They ignore the reports of people being murdered around the area in the past and not-soon-after they start encountering strange things themselves. They later learn that a witch was killed at the pond next to the house and it's believed that her spirit is loose and will kill anyone who gets in her way.

I feel that this is a very underrated supernatural horror film. It had some cool deaths and creepy moments. What I really liked about the movie was the fact that they never fully showed the witch. They only showed her during a flashback sequence and she was in human-form then. Apparently she's in some demon-form now. It's apparent because in many scenes a huge demon-like hand grabs victim's heads. It's good they never fully showed the creature, because if they did it would have probably been really cheesy and clichéd. Most likely would have ruined the whole film.

Decent amount of blood and gore and the ending is not a clichéd one, which is another thing I liked. The story is predictable, but enjoyable. The acting and directing isn't too bad. I would have given the movie a higher-rating, but it had a couple small plot-holes. Other than that it was a pretty good watch.

An underrated horror film. Has some cool deaths and decent amount of blood and gore. Predictable story, but a non-cliched ending. Worth a rent if you're looking for something.
