| An American Werewolf in London After the success of Animal House and The Blues Brothers, writer/director John Landis ventured into horror territory by bringing forth a movie that he wrote in his late teens. That movie was An American Werewolf in London. Budgeted at $10-million and making $30-million overall, the movie was a success amongst horror and movie-fans alike. Still to this day it's ranked as one of the best horror films in many veteran horror fans list. I personally think it's one of the best werewolf movies ever made. Much like the style of Landis, he manages to add some nice humor among all the "horror". In this film two friends from the U.S. take a cross-country trip through London; ending up in the outskirts within some small town that don't take kindly to outsiders (naturally). They warn the duo of the town and stress the fact that they have to leave before it's too late. Well once they do leave it is too late, because as they walk through the foggy abyss of the night sky, they get attacked by a werewolf. One friend dies, while the other is merely bitten. The man is then sent off to a London hospital. You can guess as to what happens now. The man is plagued by all the victims he's killed while in his Lycan form, and eventually runs amok through the streets of London. This obviously wasn't my first time viewing the movie, but I've noticed that through each viewing I'm as equally entertained as I was when I first saw it. This is definitely a movie that doesn't weaken with age, especially with the effects used with the gore and werewolf transformations. Yes, this is a horror flick that'll forever remain as a classic, especially amongst werewolf films. OVERALL Comments page 1 of 1:
I love this movie John Landis out did himself on this one. Great special effects Rick Baker is awsome it is not hard to belive he won an ocsar for his effects on this flim. Great gore I love all that blood and guts. Makes a great movie. A must see if you have not.
A good movie using the effects of it's time. Not the best. I think they classic lon Chaney Jr Wolf Man is the best. But this is definitely a must have for any horror fan. NOW GO GET IT!!
Simply the best werewolf movie ever made. Early 80's horror at its best.
Easily one of the greatest werwolf movies ever, although I really prefer Dog Soldiers. But...flying gore, a badass transformation, a cool werwolf, David Naughton naked in the zoo, Jenny Agutter's body, and a nightmare about ZOMBIE NAZI WERWOLVES! You just can't go wrong witth this one!
yo, love werewolves.
STILL to this day the best werewold transformation scene I've ever seen.
This is a classic werewolf film. I don't consider this the best tho. I would have to say the Lon Chaney Jr "The Wolf Man" is the greatest werewolf film ever. 2nd would have to be "The Howling" because that transformation scene is the greatest transformation scene ever to be made and put on film. 3rd would have to be this one. I like this film a lot but them two other ones are still way better. The transformation effects were ok and not better than "The Howling" transformation scene. The story line is good and so are the characters. I love when David Naughton wakes up naked in the zoo. That is one classic scene. Also another good scene is the German nazi werewolfs. Classic.
My favorite werewolf film.
A classic.
