Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes

A lot of people don't like the Amityville series and with how it’s gone down hill, I don't blame them. Despite that, some of the older movies were still rather decent and watchable in my opinion. I watched some of the Amityville flicks growing up and apparently I missed quite a bit, because I've never seen this edition to the series. This was a made-for-TV movie that aired in May of 1989 and who knows whether it actually managed to "scare" any of the viewers, because I couldn't find anything remotely scary in the flick.

The story this time travels out of the same old Amityville house we've all grown accustomed to, and focuses on a new family and their nice suburban home. An old antique lamp is bought on a yard sale by an old woman who sends it to family in other state. Now it would be foolish to think that this particular lamp wasn't haunted by a demonic spirit from the house, because that's exactly what's going on here. The spirit gets a hold of the little girl in the house and befriends her, pretending to be her deceased father. Oooo, scary yes?.. Ah, no.

I dunno why, but I actually dug the flick more than I thought I would. After reading all the negative reviews I was goin' in expecting a lame sequel, but I actually found it to be fairy decent. The deaths and "accidents" that occurred in the film were rather interesting and weren't too spread out, and the story, although predictable, wasn't all that bad either. I was never really bored, despite knowing what was going to happen before it happened. Sure the movie is really cheesy and the acting questionable, but I was personally entertained. In the end it managed to be a decent addition to the series, which was neither good nor bad.

OVERALL

If you're a fan of the series then you might as well check this out, but I'd stay away otherwise.

Is this the movie where the family comes home and finds the house a mess, and the babysitter or some girl dead in the closet? And then in the end, throw the lamp out the window down the cliff, and the cat's eyes turn yellow?
