This is an overlooked Thai film that I didn't realize was worth a damn until recently when news of its sequel broke out. After reading several positive comments on the first film, I decided to finally give it a look. To my surprise, this turned out to be a good movie -- it's creative and interesting from start to finish. Also known as 13 Beloved, the film follows a broke and down-on-his-luck guy, who receives a mysterious phone call from some sort of game show that says if he kills a fly he will win money. He immediately dismisses such an appalling idea, until the person on the other line reveals information about him that no one else would know. He kills the fly and receives a notification on his phone that money has just been deposited into his account.

A remake of the classic 1964 H.G. Lewis gorefest entitled Two Thousand Maniacs! Some fans thought that since this was titled "2001 Maniacs" that it was a sequel to the first film, but if that were the case it would have to be set in 2065. Of course writer/director Tim Sullivan wasn't going to go that route, but instead bring forth a "re-imagining" of the original, promising more of the same gore and campiness that the original offered. Of course, I've never seen the H.G. Lewis adaptation, but from what I've heard it sounded like a gore-filled ride!, much like the tradition of H.G. films, being the "Godfather of Gore" and all.

Tim Sullivan's sequel to the surprisingly entertaining 2001 Maniacs is finally here after being in development for a few years. Tim had problems finding the right funding for the film, which after seeing the movie, I can see why. While the first was a fun gore-filled ride, with lots of quirky characters and humor, its sequel is nothing more than a low-budget softcore wannabe splatter flick.

There have been a lot of positive buzz about this UK horror film. I got a chance to check it out myself and I really enjoyed it. Good plot and gets you hooked from the beginning. The plot obviously isn't too original, but it's still good. It's pretty much about a new virus that breaks out in London and in a matter of weeks the city is forced to evacuate. 28 days after the virus breaks out a man named Jim awakens to find himself in a hospital room. He roams around the city to find that there is no one in sight. He learns from reading newspapers that the city had to evacuate because of a virus.

This, much like Living Hell, is a low-budget film that shopped around for distribution for a while before finally getting a US DVD debut. This movie is part of the Yukihiko Tsutsumi and Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) team-up with their Duel-Films company that was originally just a small idea amongst colleagues that turned into reality after a few meetings together. The two talented directors had an idea to make their own film that basically shows nothing more than specific characters dueling it out. Ryuhei Kitamura came out with Aragami while Yukihiko came out with 2LDK, which essentially has only two people in the entire film, with the exception of another character who's only a supporting role that's shown in certain flash sequences.

South Korea is never in short of ghost flicks and A Blood Pledge is no different than what us Asian horror vets have already seen. Also known as Whispering Corridors 5, the film has no connection to the previous installments aside from the fact that they all revolve around a ghost in an all girl's school. In this movie the story revolves around a group of girls, whom decide to get together one night and perform a suicide pact, where they would all jump off the school's roof together. Naturally only one of the students actually goes through with it, leaving the rest having to deal with the dead girl's pesky ghost.

Its been a long time since I last gave a movie a 1-rating, but A Night to Dismember certainly deserves it. With its horrible editing, script, directing, acting, and even dubbing, exploitation director Doris Wishman surely exceeds herself when it comes to making crappy films. Born in 1920 Doris Wishman didn't hit the film scene until the 60s with cheesy nudies and eventually exploitation flicks. Though, by the time Dismember was released the exploitation scene went more mainstream, leading this mess without proper distribution. ... read more

Like most of you, I had it out for Platinum Dunes since the moment I heard of their plans for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre re-do.  But, to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and became open to the idea that they would be remaking the movies I had grown up with.  Unfortunately, with each of their films my hatred began boiling with the fire of a thousand burning suns.  They’ve created a pattern for their remakes and, despite my hopes for something better, A Nightmare on Elm Street came out EXACTLY how I feared it would.
