Ichi
the Killer
I actually saw this film many months ago, but I never got around to reviewing it, because I figured it wasn't much for a "horror" film, but then I decided to just review it anyway since I reviewed Battle Royale and Suicide Club. This is another one of Takashi Miike's strange movies. If anyone is familiar with this director he has made a lot of unusual films. It's been a while since I last saw this film, but if I remember correctly the story is pretty much like I stated above - a psychopathic killer named Ichi versus the Yakuza.
Although I wasn't able to see the uncut version of this, it was still loaded with a lot of gore, which was excellent. It's rather ironic, because at the time I was thinking the film wasn't as gory as many have said it to be, but then I found out an uncut version was coming out in a couple months. D'oh!
I'm glad I saw this movie either way; because it's an entertaining watch and the Ichi character was quite an odd one. He would have been a badass character if he didn't have to cry all the time when it came down to killing someone, but it's understandable for the story.... and funny. I liked the gory ways he would kill the Yakuza as well; good stuff. The directing is strange, but well done. There are a lot of unusual scenes and strange happenings in the film (the usual for Miike), but overall I enjoyed it and that's all that matters.
OVERALL
Another
weird Miike flick. I haven't seen
many of his films, but this is one of the better ones from what I have
seen. Recommended for gore and Takashi Miike fans.
