Naked Blood

I'm not really into the Hong Kong and Japanese splatter-type films since I find most of'em rather pointless, but over the years this little movie kept being brought up and how it was actually good. I figured it was about time I gave it a chance and checked the flick out myself. The movie gets straight to the point since it's so short and it actually has a fairly decent plot. Though, I couldn't find myself to fully enjoy it since it seemed to drag on quite a bit.

The story is basically about a scientist's intellectual son, who creates a formula he dubbed "My Son" that supposedly reduces the feeling of pain. Of course he doesn't fully know if it works, so he decides to replace a test drug his mother was working on for a few female test subjects without her knowledge. The formula is injected into the women, while he video tapes the session from another building. After their session is over he follows the three test subjects individually as they make their way home, so he can further study the effects. Obviously we're left to assume he's merely testing for side effects since he can't test if it works or not since they'd need pain done to them in order for him to know if it works.

The young man is eventually busted by one of the younger test subjects and befriends her. While he's becoming friends with the girl, the other girls are experiencing some weird side-effects -- apparently the painkiller works so well that it turns it into pleasure, and the more pain, the more pleasure the person gets. The two remaining girls are experiencing this in a big way, as we see them slowly mutilate their bodies piece by piece in a very gory manner. Examples you say? Well, at one point a girl slices off her vagina, another scene a girl's nipples are sliced off, and there's a great scene where an eyeball is removed and eaten. Mmmm, gory goodness.

So the movie starts out somewhat interesting and drags as we follow the main character stalk the one girl and befriends her. It doesn't really pick up until towards the end when the other two chicks go crazy with their own bodies. The film is seemingly pointless and that's why I decided to just give it a 6-rating -- it drags and there's really nothing worth watchin' until towards the end with all the gore. I still found the flick to be decent and I dug the little twist at the end.

OVERALL

A movie that's not really worth watching until towards the end. Good gore and graphic scenes, but not much goin' on story-wise. View at your own risk.
