| The Twins Effect (The Vampire Effect) I heard about this movie back when it was still in theatres over in HK and I heard that it wasn't a bad vampire flick, so when I found it on DVD I immediately bought it. It took me a while to finally watch it after I received it, mainly because it turned out that the first batch of discs that were sent out were faulty and didn't work with certain DVD players, so in order to finish it I had to watch it on another DVD player. Sadly I didn't know about all that until almost two months later. I'm glad I finally got to check it though, because I had a fun time watching it. The story is basically about a young prince vampire who recently moved into an old abandoned church. Considered a disgrace to some vampires (because he wont suck blood) he ends up falling for a young human girl, who just so happens to be the sister of a famous vampire hunter. To make matters worse, a power vampire is on the hunt for the prince, because he needs his blood to open up a seal which will grant great power and the ability to withstand sunlight. This movie has gotten a lot of mixed reviews, but personally I enjoyed it. I knew it was going to be a fun movie when I started watching it and I was sure to not take things too seriously and in the end I came out pretty happy. The flick grabs you from the start with its 10-or-so minute action sequence involving the famous vampire hunter and the power vamp and his goons. After that it slows down a bit, but that's where the comedy kicks in. Instead of some movies where there's good action in parts, but bores you when there's nothing going on, this movie fills all the non-action scenes with comedy, which I enjoyed very much. I also enjoyed Jackie Chan's cameo role in the film as a groom, then later on as a medic. I never thought I'd see him fight against a vampire before. It's an interesting sight to say the least. The cast is mainly consisted of young people with the exception of HK-veteran Anthony Wong. I believe the two good-guy male roles in the film are played by pop-singers. It's funny how singers there actually do a better job acting than the lame ones here in the states. Oh well. The movie is loaded with a lot of cool special effects, but we don't really get to see a lot of it until towards the final battle. The movie is aimed it a young audience, so there's no blood or guts anywhere in here. Normally I'd consider that a bad thing, but it somehow works for this movie. There's even a little English in the flick thanks to the European actor Mickey Hardt, who plays the lead evil vampire. The only thing I didn't like about this was the fact that it would get a little too silly at times, but otherwise I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the martial arts and wire-work that was in the film.
