The
Boogeyman
I guess this was an okay movie. I expected a lot more, and maybe something creepier, but was disappointed with the end result. With a name like "Boogeyman" you expect something cool and scary. Bah. It starts off with a young brother and sister spying on their mother and her boyfriend. The boyfriend gets the brother and ties him on the bed so he doesn't go about spying anymore. Later on in the movie they kind of hint that he was abusive, but you don't actually see any real abuse. Well, from what I can remember or at least paid attention to. Anyway, the sister gets a knife and cuts her brother loose.
She hands her brother the knife and they proceed into the bedroom where their mother and her boyfriend is. In the heat of the moment the boyfriend gets stabbed repeatedly in the back by the boy while the whole thing is being reflected in the mirror. Years later all is well until they get a letter from their mother stating she wants to see them again. The memories of that night start coming back to the sister and she starts going crazy. They end up going back to the old house and the sister destroys the old mirror that reflected the boyfriend's death. That releases his soul and he goes on a killing spree.
I've seen a few films that dealt with mirrors and this has to be one of the dumbest. All you really see is some dumbass glair on the broken glass of the mirror and these objects start flying around. I didn't find the film scary at all, but it did have some wicked music. It was a mixture of the theme from Halloween and the one from the Exorcist. I thought that was rather cool and it blended will with the beginning of the film. A lot of scenes really didn't make any sense and it left me wondering what the hell was going on. The acting was done well by some characters, while others really tried too hard. What I didn't get was why the guy would kill other people when all he really wanted was revenge from his murder.
I would have given this film a lower rating, but I kinda liked the wicked music and aside from the many questionable moments and horrible effects, it was an okay film. Why this film is called "The Boogeyman" is not known to me, because there wasn't much of a friggin' boogeyman.
OVERALL
An
okay film. Could have been a lot better and scarier. Had some wicked music
and some interesting deaths. I wasn't really that bored of it, but was
dissapointed with some of its campy-ness. Not
really recommended, but if you're out of ideas you might as well check
this out.
