Boogeyman 2
I'm one in a small minority of viewers that actually liked the first film. Sure, it had a weak plot and a bad ending, but the movie had some fairly creepy moments and it kept me entertained. Sony is one of many other studios that have begun releasing straight-to-DVD sequels to older horror films that never needed sequels to begin with, and Boogeyman 2 is just in a long line of unnecessary additions. This film is pretty much a sequel by name alone, as it doesn't follow any of the previous characters, nor does it even reference the first film in any way except for a really brief mention of a character from the previous film and the fact that our current lead is also afraid of some "boogeyman."
A slasher film disguised as a supernatural flick (mostly thanks to the name), this movie follows a young girl who has suffers a traumatic experience as a child, witnessing the murder of her parents by a mysterious masked stranger. Years have passed since the incident and she is still afraid of the dark and a so called "boogeyman," so she enlists herself in a mental facility in hopes of finally conquering her fear. However, she soon discovers that the figure from her past has returned and is laying waste to all those around her in horrific ways.
As a standalone flick, this was a decent slasher. The kills were creative and surprisingly gory, and the premise and especially twist at the end were all very reminiscent of an old 80's slasher, which was definitely a plus for me. However, as a sequel, this was a pretty pointless effort. Not only does it not have anything to do with the first movie (except for a brief character mention), but it's not even in the supernatural sub-genre anymore, as the villain in this flick is just some dude in a weird mask. However, as far as straight-to-DVD features go, this wasn't a bad watch.
OVERALL
A slasher disguised as a supernatural flick that works as a standalone, but fails as a sequel. Decent deaths and a surprising amount of gore keeps the viewer watching. Worth a check if you're looking for a watchable straight-to-DVD slasher.
