| Bram Stoker's The Mummy I remember catching some of this movie on TV late one night, but I missed most of the movie when I tuned in that I didn't bother watching much before changing the channel. I knew I wasn't missing much, and after seeing this I was right. The movie tends to drag on at times and a lot of the mummy action happens when the camera's away, so we get a lot of people running into the room or what-not asking 'what happened?'. Of course the mummy is revealed towards the end, but even that didn't really help the movie much. This is yet another variation of the original story from Bram Stoker's novel "The Jewel of the Seven Stars". Obviously having used the story they thought they'd throw Bram's name up in the title, hoping it would cash in on more viewers. Anyway, the story is about a young woman who's called in to visit her father after he was sent into a coma, which is believed to be the cause of an ancient mummy's curse. Apparently his sarcophagus was tampered with, which released his vengeful spirit. Either way the mummy is loose and he's pissed and takin' it out on aimless victims. In the end it's up to Louis Gossett Jr.'s supposed expertise in the matter to save the day. This movie is cheesy from the start. It was painfully obvious to me that this wasn't going to be anything special, but at least they tried to put out something worth watching. There's not a whole lot in terms of blood and gore, but it does have its moments. Most of the movie consisted of people dying one by one until the final confrontation towards the end with the daughter of the rich collector. In the end the movie was nothing more than your typical cheesy low-budget direct-to-video horror flick that offers really nothing new to the genre. I would have given it a lower rating, but there were some decent moments that didn't bore me like the rest of the movie. Somehow a sequel went to video a few years later thanks to B-movie maestro David DeCoteau, which I hear is an even worse film. It amazes me how some of the lamest movies still manage to get sequels.
