| The Card Player This is the latest flick by legendary Italian horror director Dario Argento. With a lot of the past stinkers from Dario's early-to-mid 90's work, then the surprising success of his previous film Sleepless, I figured well his next movie has gotta be better right? Wrong; this has gotta be one of Dario's worst films. Not only is it incredibly boring, but it also lacks any suspense or tension that we're used to feeling in Dario's older films. Pretty much all the "tension" had to do with the cops playing silly card games while watching the victim via a webcam being tortured and eventually killed after every failed game. The story follows a female officer and her new partner assigned to help investigate the recent murders of young women. Eventually they discover the murder wants to play poker via an online computer, and each failed game the victim gets something cut off, and eventually getting killed while the police are helpless, watching. Over time they get the aid of a young man, who seems to be nothing but pure luck to help win the games. Oooo, the suspense! Like I stated above, a lot of the movie takes place behind a computer. The only times we see the stars leaving it are when they attempt to find out where or who the killer is. Even so, the investigative tactics are lame compared to the ones used in previous Dario films. It seems like he’s really lost it with this movie. It seriously didn't even feel like Dario's work, especially since the only "gore" we see is sadly towards the end. Originally Dario's daughter Asia was supposed to be the lead, but bailed out due to personal problems (I think). Either way, it seems like it was a wise choice on her part. I'm just hoping Dario's last edition to the "Three Mothers" trilogy will be like his solid old-school stuff. OVERALL Comments page 0 of 0:
