| Cemetery Gates Kismet Entertainment, the group behind Dog Soldiers and Boo!, now brings us Cemetery Gates, a film that was finished years ago and is finally getting the DVD treatment May 30th 2006. Special FX guru Roy Knyrim makes his directorial debut with this film. I didn't know what to expect from this, but I have to say that what I got wasn't half bad. Although the creature is pretty dumb (it was obviously just someone in an oversized rat-looking costume), the humor, and gore made up for it. The storyline isn't anything we haven't seen before -- a genetically altered creature (Tasmanian devil) is let loose into the woods and chomps down on any passer-byers, especially our leads who just so happen to be a group of young wannabe filmmakers. This movie is clearly made for horror fans, and the dimwitted blonde, horny pot-smokin' guys, and cheesy B-movie creature is just further proof. When it came down to the kills, they spared no expense in the blood department, because we get buckets worth, leading it to be a bit excessive, but what gore-fiend (like myself) wouldn't like it? Much like any low-budget horror film, the acting isn't all that great, and packing it with at least one familiar face (Reggie Bannister) is normally a failed attempt at making up for everything else that's lacking. Sadly, we don't see a lot of action from our shot-gun toting Reggie Bannister (whom plays one of the scientists hunting down the creature), but the bodycount and gory deaths were a nice trade-off. Speaking of Reggie, is this guy a vampire or something? He looks as he did 20 years ago! OVERALL Comments Page 1 of 1:
