I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on this Argento film. A lot of people said it was really good and a lot said it was slow and boring. I'd have to agree on both ends. The movie did drag on a bit, especially since it had a lot of scenes that seemed a lot longer than they should have been, but it was still not a bad film. I thought the opening scene for the movie was pretty cool and found the child's song played before each murder very catchy. It starts off when a psychic tests her mind-reading powers with an audience. She catches the thoughts of a killer and points the person out in the audience. The killer somehow leaves without being seen and the psychic is later killed in her own home. A pianist gets involved in solving the crime, while almost getting killed in the process.

The regular R-rated version of this film has 22-minutes of footage removed, which included most of the gore and a lot of the more "pointless" scenes involving the pianist and a reporter. I thought a lot of the scenes involving the pianist and the woman-reporter a bit dull and unnecessary and also made the movie pretty slow in parts. The movie had some cool and graphic deaths, but those of you who are familiar with Dario's work would know that all his films are pretty much like that. I thought the way people would find clues as the film went on about the killer was innovative and interesting. That, plus the killings, kept me interested. Otherwise, I probably would have turned off the tape a long time ago, because it seemed to drag on so much.

I thought the killer towards the end of the movie was obvious, because I predicted who it would be long before they revealed who it was. I also found the climax of the film funny and cool at the same time. I would have given the movie a higher-rating, but some of the scenes seemed too long and just lost my attention.

OVERALL

A decent Argento film, but not as good as his other stuff. Drags on a bit, but has some interesting deaths and ways of finding clues left behind. Worth a rent if you're a fan of Dario Argento.

Argento at the top of his game. Arguably his best film and probably the best giallo ever. I found it scary and tense throughout. The visual style and composition is stunning. The score is truly creepy. The murder set pieces are fantastic. One should run out of superlatives when reviewing this masterpiece!

As much as I am a Argento fan this movie was good but I did not think it was half as good as it was hyped.I agree with everything you said in the review.
