Fragile

Spanish writer/director Jaume Balagueró (The Nameless, Darkness) returns with his latest chapter in the horror genre entitled Fragile. In this film Calista Flockhart stars as a night nurse whose new job is to tend to the kids at an old children's hospital before they're transported to a London facility due to the building being torn down thanks to unsanitary conditions. It doesn't take long before the nurse realizes that something's going on with the children, namely one named Maggie, who claims to have seen the "mechanical girl" who lives in the second floor, which was closed off many years ago. After a couple close encounters herself, the nurse begins asking questions to the remaining staff, in hopes of finding the origins behind this "mechanical girl", thinking maybe there's more to the story of the second floor than first led on. As time becomes closer for the children to be transported, it's clear that something doesn't want them to leave, and it's getting angrier each minute.

Director Jaume Balagueró is a talented man who knows what and how to scare the viewers -- with the right use of shadows, and proper mood and atmosphere; he can put together some fairly creepy scenes. Thus is the case with Fragile, a movie with a slow pacing that actually works in its favor in order capture the right atmosphere. Add a creepy-lookin' ghost and the film manages to deliver some decent chills. Although, the plot isn't the most original, the outcome far exceeds other recent films revolving around the same haunted-hospital theme. It's just a fact that old hospitals (especially at night) are creepy, and movies have used that fact in an attempt to make a successful horror film, but they usually just fall into the typical mold of weak boo-scares and boring characters. Fragile doesn't really go in that direction and actually keeps the audience glued to the next scene. When it was time to reveal the ghost, it wasn't some lame spectral figure, but some creepy-ass lookin' thing that you don't ever want to meet eyes with, especially in an old hospital -- good stuff! This film will supposedly hit theaters sometime in July.

OVERALL

A susprisingly good haunted-hospital flick that delivers some fairly decent chills and a cool-creepy-lookin' ghost
. Check this out.

I waited for so Long to see this movie cause i thought that it will eventually be released in theathers (it happened in Spain over 2 years ago) but i couldnt resist to watch it on a tv movie channel. Calista Flockhart is really good and although sometimes the movie is kinda slow, the ghost character really worth it ( specially that scene where Amy (Flockhart) stands still looking down the aisle the creepiest dark figure i have seen in really long time). Good job !!

I recently rented this movie out after having nothing else to get and I was actually surprised to discover that it's not THAT bad. Sure, it's a little slow and boring now-and-again. But the 'ghost' (which you don't see until the end) is pretty creepy. It isn't some lame floaty thing - it's this little girl that you see in full view. I'd reccomend this to anyone who's bored and likes ghost related movies.
