This is another low-budget indie horror flick that I kept getting emailed about from the people behind it to put up a review. I would have seen it a long time ago, but once again, I somehow missed the emails. Eventually I got around to contacting them back and a week later I got myself a VHS screener copy. It came straight from the UK, so it took some time getting to me, but it was well worth the wait, because the movie ended up being very enjoyable.
The story follows a couple young slacker-friends in their attempt to help turn a seemingly harmless recently escaped mental patient into a mass-murderer of the 21st century. What follows is a lot of hilarious scenes involving their failed attempts to successfully create a new horror icon, with the guys ultimately ending up having to fend off against the villain.
Not since Scary Movie have I seen such a successfully funny horror spoof. This movie manages to dish out various horror references and not only make'em enjoyable, but also incredibly funny -- I especially loved the Evil Dead references that were thrown in various scenes. Written by star Dan Palmer and director Christan James, with only a budget of a little over $50,000, they managed to make a small little indie film into something that would kick other mainstream horror comedies, with larger budgets (Club Dread), square in the nuts. I think what really made the movie enjoyable (aside from the funny horror references) were the very interesting characters, especially that of the funny-talking wannabe killer.
I really don't have much for complaints about this film, except for the fact that maybe had the budget would’ve been bigger that maybe they could have pulled off funnier stuff, but other than that, I had a good time watching this movie. 7-rating! I was told by Dan Palmer that since they've sent out the screener that they've cut about 10-mins worth of footage. That doesn't really surprise me since the movie kept going on, even after I thought it was already over; not that it was a bad thing.
OVERALL
A
successful indie horror spoof straight from the UK. A lot of funny scenes
that should really appeal to big horror buffs like myself. Worth a look
if you can get your hands on it.
