I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer

A couple years after the release of the second movie back in '98 rumors spread of a third film already in the works. A fake trailer was even used to prove that a third was indeed happening, but it was clearly fan-made and the rumor quickly died out. Apparently there was interest in revisiting the series around the new millennium, with the old cast returning for a final battle with the fisherman, but the project never came into fruition. Five years later, the third film would finally be made and with little knowledge about it amongst the horror community. For whatever reason, the project went under the radar for many people (myself included).

So this third film doesn't have any recurring characters, and we're pretty much given the same events as the first movie, with a few modifications in the story here and there. We once again follow a group of youngin’s as they're forced to keep the reasoning behind their friend's death a secret after a prank they pulled on him ends horribly. Naturally one year later the group (now gone their separate ways) receives strange messages saying "I know what you did last summer" and mysterious events occur, eventually leading up to the death of one of the members. It's clear to the friends that the legend of the killer fisherman is true and he's after them, but could this really be the same one from the legends? or is this just a copycat killer trying to seek vengeance on the death of the young man a year before?

The movie offers nothing we haven't already seen in the slasher craze back in the late 90, and why they bothered to resurrect this long-dead series is beyond me. Towards the end they attempt to change up the story by giving it a supernatural twist, which in my opinion makes it seem like they just ran out of ideas. The previous film was bad, but this is a much worse and entirely pointless sequel.

OVERALL

Why did they bother? If it was an attempt to wrap up the storyline, then this was a pretty pointless entry, especially since it has no connection with the previous movies except for a couple scenes referencing the fisherman and the events that happened before
. Don't waste your time on this.

Why couldn't they make a proper sequel with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr the endind of I still know what you did last summer was cool and needed a sequel, the fisherman probably won by the looks of it.
