Inside (À l'intérieur)

This is simply one of the bloodiest horror films I've seen in a long while, and I've seen a lot of films. While Hollywood is busy remaking and giving old horror films unnecessary sequels, France is dishing quality genre films left and right (look out for Frontiere(s) and Vinyan). The film is written by a couple newcomers: Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, with Bustillo also taking the role as director. If these names sound familiar, they're also the duo that are working on the upcoming Hellraiser remake. I was skeptical at first, but having seen their premiere effort, I have to say, whether the remake will suck or not, it'll at least be ridiculously bloody and that's a plus in my book.

The movie's premise is also short and to the point -- a woman named "Sarah" loses her boyfriend in a car accident, leaving her alone with her unborn child, who's still kicking in her belly. Distraught over her loss, she confines herself in her home; counting the days before she finally gives birth. However, this night wouldn't be like any other night, as she's woken up by the sound of knocking at her door. A shadowy figure is seen outside, who reveals herself to be a woman having car trouble and in need of a phone. Sarah obviously doesn't fall for such a foolish trick, and attempts to shoo her away. However, this strange woman reveals that she knows Sarah's name and other bits of information that only someone who knows her personally or has been stalking her would know. The rest of the film is played out with Sarah trying to survive the rest of the night from the crazy woman, who wants what's in her belly.

Since the film is relatively short, the action picks up pretty early on. After about 20-minutes of character development and setting the scene, the crazy woman makes her appearance and pretty much gives Sarah hell for the rest of the night, offing anyone who comes to visit. I wasn't sure how they could make a movie set in pretty much one location with very few characters without it getting rather dull, but they somehow pulled it off and I wasn't bored one bit. The movie offers some decent tense situations, but it really shines when it comes to the blood and guts, which we get an extensive amount of. Call me morbid, but I couldn't help but laugh when I saw how much blood would squirt from a victim's neck. Artery or not, it was just so excessive! It’s no wonder that the Weinstein’s are only releasing this movie on DVD here in the US, because it definitely wouldn't be able to handle a theatrical release without getting an NC-17 by the horrible MPAA.

OVERALL

Once again we have to turn to France to find a good horror movie. We've got a fresh premise, some tense scenes, and simply put: this is one of the bloodiest horror films I've seen in a while. Look out for this one when it hits DVD later this year.

I just watched this movie the other day. Wow. I was very surprised. I had forgotten it was a French movie when I rented it, but that in no way took away from the movie since there really isn't too much dialogue. My wife is pregnant with our second child, and watching this movie made me squirm. I like to think of my self as a horror buff, and have a high tolerance for gore and horror, but this movie really surprised me. Excellent story line, and amazing filming and acting. I had to watch the Behind the Scenes to find out what the hell these people were thinking making this movie. After that it made a little more sence. But very intense. Not for everyone, but I would recommend it to any horror fan. A+ 2 thumbs up.

This movie resets the bar for horror. Absolutely the best horror movie I've seen in the last 5 years, and one of the best I've ever seen.

All I have to say is WOW! This is the first movie in quite awhile that gave me chills within the first 25 minutes. This movie is amazing! That's all I can say. Watch it, if you haven't seen it!

I too watched the film, and had a significantly worse reaction to it than the median. It led to me writing an open letter to the filmmakers.
It can be found here: http://vardulon.blogspot.com/2008/04/open-letter-t o-makers-of-inside.html
Thank you for your time.

Great movie. The French just keep bombarding us with breathtaking horror. This is quite possibly my favorite horror film of all time now.

I saw the whole movie and luckily my first language is french so i understood the whole story. It follows a pretty simple story (widow depressed pregnant woman one day from delivery) but turns in the worst case scenario possible. The visual is all too graphic in the most disturbing way. First time i watched it i fast-forwarded the entire movie for a preview and just froze at the last 5 min of the movie which made me turn in my bed for one day until i took the whole movie in. My comment is: don't watch if you're currently pregnant, it will make your water broke.

ok wow, I just found this website where you can watch free movies and they had this flick uploaded in 3 different parts.... it's in French but w/ eng. subs...OMG.... the 3 mins I watched (I think towards the end) were very, very disturbing almost to the point where I felt my stomach turning... wow, i'll just mention I saw a pole and that did it for me... wow. I'll buy the movie but I don't know if I could handle the whole thing in 1 shot... it looks like a visually exhausting film from what i've seen.

I down loaded the movie a month ago and it was intense right up to the very end and it kept me interested but really bloody as it had high points an low but always ending with some sort of action in it MY ONLY COMMENT to the people reading I couldn't find a copy in ENGLISH and I do not speak French my loss in this case, cause it was good even though I had to guess most of what was taking place good one to see if you speak French.
