| Maniac This was your basic 80s slasher flick. Nothing really new or original here and when you think a camp, you think of Friday the 13th, so that didn't help much either. It had its moments though, and it didn't really bore me, so I wasn't too disappointed by it. Finally a cool movie! I decided to rent this movie after hearing good word about it on the net. VERY cool gore scenes. My personal favorite is this one scene where make up artist, Tom Savini, gets his freakin' head blown off by a two barrel shot gun at point blank range. That was one hell of a scene! I found the entire movie entertaining and was anticipating the killer's next murder through every moment of the film. There were some tense scenes where you wonder if the girl's gonna get a way or not. I didn't find the movie very scary though. The acting is excellent, especially towards Joe Spinell, who played the killer. He truly is a maniac and it's evident while watching the film. It's very weird how he scalps his victims and places their scalps on mannequins. Reminded me a little of Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is one of the best slasher films I've seen, and it's good to see that it has NO teenagers at all -- very rare when it comes to a slasher movie. I was lucky enough to rent the digitally re-mastered collector's edition, because I got to see footage for the sequel and a deleted scene. Each death scene was different from one another. It wasn't just stabs in the chest or stomach. I was a little confused at why he would kill people and take their scalps, but it made sense after a while. OVERALL Comments Page 1 of 1:
i didn't get a chance to see maniac when i was younger so i bought the special edition tin set when it came out. i was not let down in an way. joe spinell is great in the lead, and lustig's direction is great too. also listen to the commentary on the disk, it's just about as good as the movie. a must see for gore fans!
I saw the end of this, and thought it was really cool, and freaky, can't wait to see the whole thing
