Raw Meat

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this movie. I heard a lot of mixed reviews, but I watched it with an open mind. Too bad I wasn't open enough to not be bored, because that's how I was basically throughout the whole flick. The story is about cannibals who secretly live in an underground train station, and pick off loners for food. How'd the cannibals get there? Well apparently a long time ago a group of diggers were caught in a cave-in while constructing the station and were all thought to have been dead. Silly non-believers.

The movie has some decent gore, which made it a little interesting, but in the end it was just too slow-paced and the lack of action didn't help me being entertained much. It was cool to see Donald Pleasence and Christopher Lee in the film, although Mr. Lee only had a cameo appearance while Donald had more of a starring role. The movie was interesting at first, with an unknown individual's body disappearing after being spotted by the two lead characters in the train station. It's just too bad it didn't continue to be interesting from there, because there was just too much dialogue in the movie for me. Sometimes even the scenes seemed to run longer than they should have, which made things worse.

Still, it did have a decent story and the performances, especially that of the main cannibal was well done. I was just hoping for more action than what I got. I would have given it a lower-rating, but it isn't an entirely bad film. It's boring, but the directing is decent and the acting is well done, so I thought a 5-rating was best fitting.

OVERALL

A decent movie, but too boring for my tastes. I expected more cannibal action and instead got a whole lotta talkin'. Not recommended unless you really dig cannibal flicks, but if that were the case I'd recommend Cannibal Apocalypse.
