Romasanta: The Werewolf Hunt
This movie is brought to us by the guys behind Spain's Filmax and Fantastic Factory, which are sister-companies that gave us Darkness, Beyond Re-Animator, and the upcoming Rottweiler among others. The movie is based around true events set in the 19th century about a traveling vendor, who apparently killed various people and used their body fat to produce soap. When he was later captured to avoid death he claimed to suffer lycanthropy, or better known as the curse that turns men into werewolves. The film basically tells the tale and what might have really happened. Julian Sands plays the traveling vendor and does an excellent job I might add.
I had a few problems with this movie. For one, not only does the poster art seem oddly familiar to that of the popular French flick Brotherhood of the Wolf, but the look and style of the movie also seemed to try to mimic Brotherhood as well. Obviously when comparing the movies, it's obvious which the better of the two is. Another problem was my dumbass fault because I went in thinking this was going to have werewolves in it. Although we do get scenes that are somewhat werewolf-eque, it's still far from being a werewolf flick. In fact most of the movie just consists of the vendor committing some horrible acts then goes on the run when he's found out. I was also disappointed with the ending, but then again, I didn't know too much about the real story behind the movie, so I couldn't prepare myself for a courthouse ending.
In the end I found the movie to be interesting with some minor flaws. I can't stress enough that if you do manage to see this movie, don't go in thinking it's a werewolf flick, because it's not. I don't believe this has any U.S. distribution yet, so no word on when it'll be hitting DVD, but you can get yourself an all-region copy through the link on your right.
OVERALL
Not a bad flick, but don't see it thinking it's got werewolves in it, because it doesn't. It's mostly just a story about a crazy murderer who claimed to be a werewolf.

unlike most people i looked into it before watching.
thanks god i did.
i origionally thught it was a werewolf flick too but was really interested in the fact it was based on true events.
i couldn't really find anything to pick at in this one, i usually can.
so thats i think why i enjoyed it so much.
