This film may seem like a box office flop, releasing at just under 2,000 theaters and only making around $4-million opening weekend, and with its budget set at an estimated $15-million, the film ended up racking in a mere $7-million with its overall theatrical run. Regardless, this movie was clearly not meant to bring in the big bucks, because writer/director James Gunn is a horror fan and made this movie to bring back the cheesy B-movie style of the 80s that we've all grown to love. Playing homage to various films, many thought of this as simply a rip-off of the classic zombie cheese-fest Night of the Creeps. Of course it'll seem that way since its playing homage to films like that. I'd honest rather see a cheesy and fun rip-off than another lame teeny-bopper PG-13 remake of an Asian film or older horror film, which seems to be the trend in Hollywood lately. Sure this film isn't original, but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun!

Tracking back to old-school Sci-Fi monster flicks, the premise follows the events of a small town after a strange rock lands in the middle of a forest. Before you know it a pesky worm-creature shoots itself out of a cocoon-like egg and infests itself in Michael Rooker's character. The seed has been planted, and now it's only a matter of time before the whole town is turned into mindless drones with zombie-ish characteristics. With a taste for fresh meat, it's up to the local sheriff and a couple townspeople to put a stop to the alien menace before it devours the whole town and goes nationwide. I had fun watching this movie from the start, with the cheesy jokes and interesting characters, to the awesome gore and special effects. In ways this is what Night of the Creeps could have been had the technology been available at the time. This is definitely a movie made by a horror fan for horror fans.

Just watched this movie today, I thought it was stupid it didn't really have a good story line, the acting was pretty good, there were some funny parts but it's not worth it. 3/10
