The Convent

I started watching this film knowing it was gonna be nothing but cheesy fun and that's exactly what I got. I found the film enjoyable and entertaining. It had some cheap graphics, but some very cool neon effects, which made the demons look very cool. It starts off interesting enough with a girl breaking her way into a convent and blowing away a bunch of nuns and a head priest with a shotgun. Now that's something you don't see much; very cool opening for a horror film. Flash-forward about 40-or-so years and you see a bunch of dumbass college teens wanting to go into the supposedly haunted convent. Same old stuff happens -- the plot is obviously far from original.

I actually wasn't expecting much from the movie at first, but was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. There were lots of sweet looking demons and a lot of cheesy action fun. Adrienne Barbeau's character plays the badass of the film and I thought she pulled it off well. The acting from most of the actors was okay. The directing was good and so was the lighting and effects. There were lots of neon colors in the film and that's always appealing to the eye. There were also a lot of fast-motion effects for when the people would turn into demons -- gotta love that fast-motion stuff. The movie itself isn't scary or anything, because it's mainly just comedy and action with demons thrown into the mix. You have to watch this film with an open mind and remember that it's not supposed to be taken seriously and you will find it to be fun and entertaining like I did.

I would have given it a higher rating, but the ending seemed like it was rushed. It's like they were running out of time and just had to end it already. Also the last scene at the very end was just plain silly. Expect this film to come out to video later this year, I think around October or so.

OVERALL

See this film with an open mind. Don't expect something brilliant to come out of it, but do expect a lot of ass kicking and demons.
