| The Machinist Director Brad Anderson has gone from messing with our minds with Session 9 to messing with our minds with The Machinist. This guy must have some fascination with what's real and what isn't, because that's exactly the question posed in this film by lead actor Christian Bale. Produced by Spanish production company Filmax with a budget around $5-million; the film got a VERY limited release late last year and continues to have very small theatrical play in select cities. I don't even know if it has a proper distributor that can handle a wider release. It's a shame too, since the movie is a good one. Bale dropped a reportedly 60 lbs. to play the role of Trevor Reznick -- a dangly and pale machinist who claims to not have slept in a year. One day Trevor begins having visions and comes to notice the accidents around him may be intentionally caused by someone who seems to be following him around. Trevor is then slowly sent into a downward spiral, questioning reality and the people around him. Although this movie is a bit slow it's still very interesting. From the start I was wondering what was up with this guy. Of course, that when I finally got over the shock of actor Christian Bales pale skinny body. He looked like something out of those feed-the-children ads. Even after viewing pics of him from the film it was still rather shocking. Anyway, through most of the flick it's more like a drama, with some horror elements thrown in now and then. This is definitely a movie for those that are looking for more of a plot than a bunch of naked chicks and a masked killer. I wouldn't be surprised if the biggest release this film gets it a direct-to-video, but at least it'll lead more fans into checking it. Keep your eye out for this one. OVERALL Comments page 1 of 1:
I really enjoyed this. I was kept guessing what the hell was going on all throughout it. This is one movie that people must watch just for the story.
