| The Mangler Man, what the hell was Tobe Hooper thinking when he agreed to direct this? The movie is based on a short story by, sadly, Stephen King. I don't know how much of the original story was changed for this film, but I'd like to think that the original story had more to it than the crap that was dished out in this flick. Yes, the brief plot description above is the actual plot. To be more precise, it's an old "steam pressing machine" that's actually possessed by a demon. While watching the movie I noticed Robert Englund in a lot of heavy make-up as the aging, greedy owner of the huge machine. Another star I noticed was Ted Levine as the cop investigating the deaths. Some may remember his voice as that of "Rusty Nails" in the movie Joyride. So despite the stupid story, is there anything good about the movie? Yes, the gory deaths were good enough to make the viewer squeamish; especially if you check the unrated version, which adds 30 seconds of additional gore in some of the deaths. That's pretty much all that's good about the flick. Aside from the silly story it's filled with some pointless scenes, and drawn-out scenes and dialogue. I felt a 4-rating was best fitting for this, since I did enjoy the gory deaths and I've still seen a lot worse crap than this. Honestly I have no idea why a sequel was made, but one was made in 2001 that went direct-to-video. What a waste; I'm not even gonna bother with that one. OVERALL Comments page 0 of 0:
