Trick or Treat

I remember seeing this movie many years ago and I thought it wasn't anything special. Over the years I realized how much of a "cult" film it was in the horror genre, so I finally got my hands on it again to check it out a second time, hoping that maybe this time 'round that I'd appreciate it more -- nah. The movie is about a young obsessed fan of a famous devil-worshipping rock star, who is given a record from his idol after he dies a mysterious death. The fan realizes that there's a secret message within the record once played backwards. It ends up being some kind of gateway for the rock star to return to life, but before he does he helps the young fan take care of those who picked on him.

Although I didn't really like this film, it did have its ups and downs. It starts off pretty good, just like your typical 80's horror flick - teen gets revenge on his bullies. After a while the movie goes a little off track. It doesn't have the same feel as it did in the first half. I suppose it just got too serious with what was going on. I still enjoyed it none-the-less. It was quite cool seeing Gene Simmons have a small role in the film and Ozzy Osbourne playing someone boycotting rock music because of it's satanic connections. The directing was decent considering this is the same guy that did the kids movie Air Bud, *sigh*. It doesn't have much for gore, blood, or scary scenes, but back in the 80's the focus really wasn't on scares. I can see how people can consider this a cult movie, but I personally don't have much appeal to the film. I was thinking about a 6-rating, but I didn't like it as much as I wanted to.

OVERALL

A decent rent if you're a fan of 80's horror.

I can't believe I'm the first to add a comment. Well, I saw this movie as a kid and really liked it, well close to 20 years have passed and I didn't even remember the name but was eager to see it again, well I got to know the name and saw it completely on YouTube, I gotta say this time I saw it I liked it even more, and I think that's not the right movie box because it Ozzy and Simmons are not the main characters.
