The Wicker Man

I’ve wanted to see this film for the longest time, because it was supposed to be one of the best horror films ever made and having seen it I have to say that it is definitely NOT one of the best, but it sure is one of the weirdest. The movie starts off pretty interesting being about a police man from the mainland going to an island town after reports of a missing girl. He asks the towns people and they all seem to be hiding something and eventually he stumbles onto something far more sinister then just a simple missing-girl case.

I thought this movie was pretty weird. It's not every day that I see people singing and dancing naked in a horror movie. I thought some of the singing in this movie was rather pointless and it seemed to just been put there to pass the time. I understand that many scenes that involve singing were important to the plot, because it would reveal more about the townspeople's religion, but it seriously got annoying to me. I always had a thing against about movies with singing involved. Although this movie isn't technically a musical it does seem that way sometimes and the creators even referred to it as one.

I was pretty surprised with all the nudity as well. It caught me off guard and also seemed rather pointless, but then again it reverts back to the whole religion they have and blah blah. Silly religious mofos. The movie did hold my interest a bit when it was serious and more of the story was revealed. The ending is supposed to be real "shocking," but by today's standards it's rather tame. It wasn't much of a shock, especially since I saw it coming very early on. I have to admit that this film is pretty original and the directing and atmosphere is good. I would have given the movie a lower-rating, but it kept my interest in parts and I liked the originality of it. I can see how many people would like this, but the singing and naked dancing just doesn't appeal to me.

OVERALL

Not a bad direct-to-video.
This is a film that you’ll either love or hate. If you like slow-paced thinkers that have singing and dancing, then maybe this is your cup of tea. It wasn't mine.

Movie should have been a musical, coulda been better. Better yet, I bet Rocky going at it with this witch would have made a better review for this movie.

TOTAL CRAP! Lack of gore and extreme predictability ruined what could have been a pretty cool movie
