No official plot yet, but the first film revolved around the exploits of a cynical exorcist/demonologist named John Constantine.

Keanue Reeves had a recent interview where he briefly touched on the status of this sequel, which appears to have received a new script draft. Here's what he had to say: "Fingers crossed. Another draft of the script came in. We’re waiting. We’re gonna take it to the studio and hopefully they like it too." (10/3/25)
Actor Peter Stormare (who played the Devil in the first movie) offered an update on the project in a recent interview, essentially revealing that Keanu isn't exactly happy with the scripts and how the studio wants to load it with a lot of overblown action sequences. Here's what he said: "It's a lot of back and forth, because... I think Keanu [Reeves], which I know pretty good, is not so happy with the scripts and usually what comes out of the studios [...] But to do a sequel, the studios want to have, you know, cars flying in the air. They want to have people doing flip-flops and fighting action scenes."
He continues... "Keanu wants to do a sequel that is very close to the first one. And I think Keanu says, 'I've done 'John Wick.' This movie is spiritual. It's about demons and regular people. And I wanted to keep it that way. [...] I think he wants to do his character again, Constantine, as grounded as it was in the first one. It took a long time for you to become a cult movie, it really worked, and it will work on the audience again. You don't have to add a lot of action and shootouts. You have other movies. Don't turn it into big Marvel... [Don't turn it] into us flying around in harnesses all the time and shooting each other up. Don't bring in the big guns. Let it be." (5/30/25)
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura offered a small update on the project in a recent interview, revealing that the script is finished and he just has to read it, saying: "You know it's in my inbox right now. Funny enough, I'm too scared to read it, though. I want it to be good so bad. I probably read it in the next few days. When I get on an airplane." (9/13/24)
Writer Akiva Goldsman gave a brief update on the project, revealing that he's still working on the script, saying: "It's going fine. I’m writing a script about Constantine 2. It's good. I hope to have a script for my partners soon." (7/25/24)
With the writer's strike going on nothing's currently happening with the project right now, but writer Akiva Goldsman did offer a brief update confirming that the project is still in development and "Francis [Lawrence], Keanu [Reeves], and I have broken ‘Constantine 2.’ I just haven’t started typing yet." (7/10/23)
Apparently there has been a recent rumor going around that this project has been cancelled. That has been proven false by EW, who reported the following: "A spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed to EW that Constantine 2 is not scrapped." (2/7/23)
Director Francis Lawrence had a recent interview where he revealed that a script is still yet to be written, but many ideas are floating around, saying: "We have germs of ideas and dedication. And Keanu and I have been batting around for a while and we’ve always wanted to do it. It’s just that we finally gotten past the hurdle of now we can go ahead and, and really do it. Now we have to just roll up our sleeves and dive in. But we have lots of ideas." Adding that the first film was shot as PG-13, but received an R-rating anyway, so this time he'll be aiming for that R rating: "One of the biggest things for me about the first one was we followed, per Warner Bros., the rules to make a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality. But the ratings board gave us a hard R based on their the gray zone of intensity. And my big, big regret was that we have an R-rated movie that’s really a PG-13 movie. And if I was going to have to go have an R, I would have really made an R-rated movie. I would have made it much scarier and much more violent and I would have really made an R-rated movie." (11/15/22)
Keanu Reeves returns to play John Constantine, which comes as no real surprise since the actor has expressed interest in reprising his role for some time now.
Director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire/Mockingjay Part 1 and 2) returns to helm this sequel.
Scripted by Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Robot, Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code, I Am Legend).
A new Constantine series was being developed by HBO Max last year, which was going to follow "a younger version of the character and focus more on the horror elements of the comics rather than the religious ones." That project has since been scrapped in favor of this sequel.
An NBC series was created in 2014 that starred Matt Ryan as Constantine. The series only ran for one season, but we'd see him return as the character in an animated movie as well as live-action in DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
A potential sequel has been talked about for over a decade
This is a sequel to 2005's Constantine, which was based on DC Comics' Hellblazer comic book.
