American
Nightmare
I heard a lot
of positive stuff on this direct-to-video slasher flick, so I got my hands
on it to check it out for myself and not surprisingly, I enjoyed it. The story is
nothing original. A group of friends are being hunted down by a killer,
but they don't know it until it's too late. The killer knows their fears
because they were stupid enough to call up a radio show and broadcast
it. The killer tries hard to make their fears come true.
This is a pretty
decent slasher. The killer was somewhat original and I never really got
too bored by anything in the movie. I did however think the scene involving
them revealing their fears was a little too long and could have been shortened
a bit. There's really no gore, but there's the average amount of blood.
I guess this
just proves the point that with a good director, decent plot, and an interesting
killer, you can put together a nice slasher film from a low-budget. It
seemed that most video-slashers coming out now-a-days was just the same
old crap, but at least this one was a little better than the rest and
seemed to go back to the basics, which is never a bad thing. The acting was
a little iffy in parts, but it wasn't too bad for the most part. I would
have given the movie a higher-rating, but I don't believe it's original
enough, though it's still enjoyable for slasher fanatics like myself.
OVERALL
Worth a rent if you like slasher movies.
Drags on a little in the beginning but it picks up once the killings start.
Interesting deaths and an interesting killer. Check this.
