| Into the Mirror South Korea has been trying to catch up with the Japanese-ghost sensation that has barely hit North American a few years ago, despite the fact that they've been dishing out this stuff for decades. Regardless, it wasn't until the late 90's with Ringu that it really started to kick and South Korea soon followed; dishing out their brand of long black-haired ghosts and pale faces. Sometimes they're nothing more than lame repeats of what we've already seen, and sometimes they get it right, by adding their own blend of scares and deliver something slightly different. In this movie they take the same formula of the long-haired ghost, but add a twist -- mirrors. I personally think there should be more horror movies that deal with the use of mirrors. I've seen my fair share over time and they've all been mostly decent watches. The story revolves around an ex-cop, who is now working as a security guard in a soon-to-be-opened mall. Apparently there was an accident involving a fire a while back, which led to its closure. Now, under new management, the mall is being re-opened and the ex-cop has a new job. Things start off rocky as someone winds up dead inside the mall. The cops come to investigate and rule it as a typical murder. That is until more bodies start piling up. The ex-cop -- working late at night -- begins to suspect that the deaths may have something to do with the many mirrors that are within the mall. After seeing a strange woman walk around the premises, he comes to the conclusion that not only may there be a killer on the loose, but the killer may even be a ghost. I personally liked the movie. It had some decent scares and the ghost was somewhat original. I obviously liked the fact that they used mirrors as a main part of how the ghost moves around and acts out against his/her victims. I also liked the fact that the setting is a mall and not some old house, which is a theme that is all too common here in the U.S. The ex-cop was an interesting character and I felt that the story never dragged on or bored me at any time. Although the ending is very predictable, it's still an enjoyable watch. OVERALL Comments page 0 of 0:
