Tales Before I get into the film, I just want to let you all know that there are two films with this name. There's a more recent version that many people know of and this isn't it. Now that I have that cleared up I thought this was an okay film. The stories weren't very scary, but they were somewhat interesting in their own way. The movie starts off with three young campers meeting up with the local homeless man who then tells them "scary" stories around a campfire. The first story is about a crazy man who just escaped from a mental institution who also bares a hook for a hand; not very original. This was one of the weaker stories. The acting was unbelievable and the lighting was horrible. The second story was a bit original and funny at the same time. It was about these two druggies trying to score some marijuana. They end up meeting some guy who hooks them up with all the marijuana they want. The only thing is that this marijuana has something special in it. This story was pretty gory at the end, but more funny than scary. The acting was better than the previous story. The third story was probably the best story. It was about a greedy son who comes back home on Christmas from an unsuccessful business venture. His greed then gets the best of him when he kills his own mother in order to get more money for his business. What he didn't expect was "Satan Clause" to be on his ass. Satan Clause is supposedly an evil version of Santa, who punishes those who are bad. I liked this story the best because pretty much any story with an evil Santa is cool. It didn't have much for gore, but the acting wasn't bad. The evil Santa looked pretty cool as well. The fourth and last story is about a pirate who washes ashore an unknown island. He meets up with someone on the island who claims to know where buried treasure lies. The pirate goes out hunting the treasure and eventually finds it. Too bad he'll have to deal with the undead before he can actually leave the island. This was the longest story in the film and probably the most boring. It doesn't pick up 'till towards the end when the zombie pirates start coming. Acting was pretty bad in this one. I guess if you're a fan of horror films that tell short stories, then you might like this movie, but I thought it could have been a lot better. Would have given a lower rating, but the stories weren't that bad and they kept my interest. If you're gonna rent this film, at least see it for the evil Santa. OVERALL Comments page 0 of 0:
