| The Ring 2 While other sites are posting links that lead to clips for the film, I got a chance to see the whole film in its entirety. I was lucky enough to view a special screening today (three days before its release) and despite having a headache, I enjoyed the flick. Although I didn't find it to be better than the first, it did have some superior moments. I thought the mood was similar to that of the Japanese versions; you can thank original director Hideo Nakata for that, as he came on board to direct this American remake. The movie continues after the events of the first film, where Rachel and Aiden have relocated to another town; hoping to escape their past. Like the saying goes, the past has a way of catching up to, and that's exactly what happens here, when victims of the cursed tape turn up in the town. This leads Rachel to come out of the woodwork and investigate deeper into Samara's past. We learn a little more about Samara's real mother, but the movie still leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Especially when the topic of her father is brought into question. About half-way through the flick we realize that Samara has plans for Rachel and her son, so this movie isn't so much about the tape as it is about Samara's intentions. When first word of a sequel was released, the first thing that came to mind was whether it would also be a remake of the Japanese sequel or not. It was later revealed to be its own movie, and despite a couple similar scenes, it does manage to hold its ground as something different. Like I mentioned earlier, it doesn't revolve around the tape like the first. In this movie Samara apparently wants to come through to the real world using Aiden's body, so Rachel has to find away to stop her before it's too late. That's pretty much the whole movie -- attempting to run away from Samara, while trying to figure out a solution. There are some creepy scenes and a few good scares here and there, and it seemed as though they tried to pack in a little more action than the first. The first half of the movie is really interesting, as Samara finds many ways to scare Rachel and her son, but the second half is a much slower pace, and some may even consider it to get boring around this time. I personally thought that it did slow down quite a bit, but it still kept my interest. So when it all boils down to it, the first film is better, but the sequel does have a couple really cool scenes. Who knows if they will make another sequel or go towards the prequel route like the Japanese Ring 0. OVERALL Comments page 1 of 1:
A 7/10? This movie deserves a .3/10, in my opinion.
