Rottweiler

Brian Yuzna returns with another direct-to-video horror feature. This time we're witness to a Terminator dog as it tracks down a man who recently escaped from prison and goes in search of his lost love. I admit the movie had entertaining aspects, but overall it's just a mess. The script has a lot of plot-holes and this unstoppable rottweiler is questionable. Mix the film with some cheesy effects and a blatant rip-off at the end and you've got another lame addition to the direct-to-video lineup at your local video store. The gore is minimal and the acting is not far from students in a high school project. As for the story, it's as thin as your Saturday night SciFi Channel original movie, which makes me wonder why the film didn't premiere on the channel. Here's a quick rundown of the story:

A couple get their kicks by playing dangerous real life games that can either get them killed or land them in jail. One such incident occurred when they attempt to cross some sort of border illegally and get busted by the corrupt head honcho and his cronies. With the help of flashbacks, we see the couple, in exchange for staying out jail; agree to let the girlfriend have a little "fun" with the big man inside his limo. The rest is fuzzy until the truth is revealed at the end, but the guy ends up in jail anyway, which leads us to present day when he escapes. The baddies trump card is the use of a genetically altered and seemingly unstoppable rottweiler, as it tracks down the escapee and stops at nothing to bring him in, dead or alive.

All negative aside, the movie did somehow manage to keep me interested (during scenes that weren't so clichéd and predictable, which were very little). Regardless it's still your average direct-to-video feature that's better off left on the shelves than your T.V.

OVERALL

Don't bother unless you like cheesy clichéd direct-to-video garbage
