Severance
The is the next film from UK director Christopher Smith, who brought us Creep a couple years prior. Although Creep was a good film, it had its flaws, where-as this movie really shows the man's talents as a director and how he can make a highly entertaining and original film. Described as a horror-comedy that mixes corporate life and slasher film, the movie successfully delivers the laughs and the gore. Although not as hilarious as Shaun of the Dead it does manage to bring forth humor in the darkest of situations. The film follows a group of sales people for a weapons company as they are sent on a vacation retreat somewhere in Eastern Europe. After they take a detour in the forest they find themselves in the paths of a group of gun-crazy ex-soldiers who consider anyone that trespasses as the enemy. Now the group must struggle to survive in an environment that's alien to them, but second-home to the soldiers.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this movie. It has an interesting group of characters and an uncommon villain in a horror film. Instead of facing against a family of inbred, demonic creatures, or some kind of weird mutation, the group fight against a slightly more realistic enemy -- a group of regular people who just happen to have a lot of military training and may be missing a few screws in their head. Given that their trained we're witness to a variety of situations where our leads are subjected to attempts of survival, from avoiding the bear traps laid out in the forest to getting caught by the leg and hung upside down. While all of this death and destruction is occurring we get moments like calling for help, but being put on hold with cheesy music. Of course not all the humor works, but it isn't a movie that tries hard to make the audience laugh to begin with, so in the end it doesn't matter if a joke is funny or not, because it somehow fits. Magnolia Pictures will distribute this theatrically in the US sometime early next year, but if you're located in the UK you've probably already seen tihis film on the big screen.
OVERALL
With its mix of bloody deaths and light comedy, we're witness to a highly entertaining British horror-comedy. Definitely recommended when it gets it proper US distribution next year. Look out for this one.

This film has great reviews and positive comments and praises - but i just didnt enjoy it at all - i didnt think there was THAT much gore and the movie was slow-paced.
The movie was NOT scary at all!!
I thought that the characters were interesting and i agree with the review above that its good to see a different type of killers - not mutations or zombies.
I give Severance 4.5/10
