The
Hitcher 2: I've Been Waiting
What the hell? I never expected The Hitcher to ever have a sequel, especially since it pretty much concluded from the ending of the first film. Somehow they managed to pull a sequel out of their ass and threw this together. So is it worth checking out? Negative. I'm a big fan of the first movie and this movie was just a total insult to fans of the original, especially with what happens in the beginning of it. Bah.
So the plot is pretty simple, but that's to be expected, because it's hard to get a good plot for a sequel for a movie that doesn't need a sequel. Well anyway, it's basically about the same main character from the first movie, once again played by C. Thomas Howell. The young man is now an adult male and a police officer to boot. Though, his demons from the past still haunt him. He still gets bad dreams about the events that happened to him in the first movie and he believes that his only way to get rid of them is to go back to the place where it all started.
Him and his girlfriend, played by the lovely Kari Wuhrer , travel to the place from the first film, but for some reason pick up a hitch-hiker along the way. Sound familiar? Well it was all the girlfriend's idea anyway. The hitch-hiker seems friendly at first, but the man from the first film suspects the hitch-hiker is up to no good, just like the one from the past. After freaking out and kicking the hitch-hiker out of the car, they meet up with the hitcher again later on, only to witness him murder a police officer before their eyes. Looks like the guy was right. Stupid girlfriend... bah, how could I stay mad at you Kari
Anyway, the movie is pretty much like the first film only dumb-down a whole lot. The twists and turns weren't as innovative and interesting as the one in the first movie, and Jake Busey as the hitcher really doesn't do it for me. The guy just isn't freaky enough, especially with those big pearly whites of his. The film is interesting, which is why I didn't give it any lower of a rating that it got, but it still isn't a good movie. Especially to those of us who are fans of the original. You'll know what I mean when you watch the movie, I don't want to spoil anything.
The directing wasn't anything special, because the director failed to capture any real suspense or tension that the first movie had, but what do you expect from the same guy who brought us the horrible Bats film that came out some years back. *shivers*. In the end this is just another failed and pointless sequel. The only thing good about this film, aside from the fact that it was interesting at times, was Kari Wuhrer, but sadly since it's PG-13 there is no nudity. What a waste.
OVERALL
A waste
of a sequel, but a decent rent for those who haven't seen the first. Has
a lack of tension and innovative twists that the first had. Not recommended,
just watch the first instead.
