My Top 5 Horror Movies Of The Last 10 Years

Every now and again it's time to take a break from the gaming delights hosted at the world famous https://www.redflushcasino.com/. What better way to enjoy some down time than to settle in and check out a top quality horror movie? Sure there's always a place for one of the classics (The Shining, Misery, 28 Days/Weeks Later and so on) but the last decade has seen the arrival of some of the best horror movies of all time. Here are five of the best releases over the last 10 years that any movie fan must check out!

1) The Cabin In The Woods (2012)

Incorporating an edge of comedy into a horror flick can be either triumphant or disastrous, and the good news is that The Cabin In The Woods is a real five-star performer. Without providing too many spoilers, at first glance this movie looks like it's going to be a typical 1980's style straight to video effort - but nothing could be further from the truth. The plot revolves around a few college friends taking a break at a remote cabin, where a mysterious governmental body then sets about tormenting them in order to appease 'the ancient ones'. Featuring Kristen Connolly in a breakthrough performance alongside established stars who clearly relish their roles, it is one of those movies so good that you'll notice something different with every screening.

2) It Follows (2014)

It's always refreshing when a new style of horror flick turns up, and this darkly psychological movie is one of the creepiest of the decade so far. The plot revolves around a girl who is subjected to a sexual assault, following which she becomes pursued by a shape-shifting demonic spirit until she passes it on. To add to the malevolent atmosphere that pervades this film, the demon is only capable of walking slowly but always knows where the victim is. Sure you can run, but you certainly cannot hide. The result is one of the best-received horror movies in years, having received the international acclaim that suggests there may also be a sequel in the offing.

3) The Mist (2007)

When Stephen King declares that he prefers the ending to this movie version of his book to that he originally envisioned, you know you're in for a shock or two. The Mist has gained a cult following since its release, with countless viewers being left speechless by the end of what - at first - seems like a pretty standard monster movie. Without giving too much away, the plot revolves around the residents of a sleepy small town who are suddenly enveloped in a mysterious mist that masks a range of bloodthirsty monsters. A classic popcorn and Pepsi story that never fails to surprise, this is a quality production made all the better for featuring mainly little-known actors playing believable roles.

4) Kill List (2011)

The title may suggest that this is going to be some kind of action romp, but that's very far from the truth. This deeply dark British film follows the story of former soldiers who have become hit men and end up accepting a three kill contract for a mysterious secret society/cult. Superb acting from both Neil Maskell and Michael Smiley in the leads perfectly portrays the sinister story, in which no situation is ever quite as it appears. Perhaps the best aspect of Kill List is that it can be viewed as a typical action/horror movie, and also as a very abstract film noir that is by far and away much more unsettling.

5) Get Out (2017)

Already a hot favorite for the awards season, Get Out involves enough enslavement and mind control to put anyone off hypnosis for life! A thrilling and quite frankly terrifying story that demands multiple rewatches, once the secrets are made clear the extremely smart nuances within script and screenplay become much more apparent. Overall a fantastic debut from young director Jordan Peele who makes the most from equally fresh talent such as Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams, this is a fantastic addition to anyone's movie collection and certain to demand plenty of debate afterward.
