Art of the Dead (2019)

REVIEWER RATING:
8/10

DIRECTOR:

And now for something more original than normal! Sold with the promise that Richard Grieco made an appearance, Art of the Dead was a most enjoyable little treat!  Although Grieco (and Reid) are not the main characters, both performances were extremely promising, giving off the illusion that they CAN in fact act and choose a great horror film to snag a small part within.

Art of the Dead follows the old tale of the 7 Deadly Sins through paintings by controversial artist named Dorian Wilde. The tale goes that each painting of an animal (a snail, serpent, peacock, lion, pig, etc.) represents one of the seven deadly sins. What the owner(s) do not know, is their deadly connection to the disturbed artist Wilde who sold his soul to the devil in order to become infamous in the art world.

The Wilson family is the center of the storyline…alongside their absurdly wealthy lifestyle, includes a young adult son, a teenage daughter and two younger siblings…each succumb to the trance-like state of the paintings in their domain.

While sexy mom Gina (Morris) has her fun discovering “Lust” through a goat, her handsome husband is clouded by the frog of “Greed”, while daughter Donna flakily runs amok with “Envy” and son Louis (also a painter) becomes lethal under the lion’s harness of “Wrath.” Louis’ girlfriend is the only unaffected household dweller that desperately searches for answers to uncover how these paintings became controlling over all the members of the Wilson family.

The deaths are gruesome and the functionality of each metamorphosis grabs hold tightly until the dreaded secret unfolds.

Art of the Dead is as entertaining as it gets within the horror genre…sex, blood, animals and Richard Grieco! What else is missing? Check it out!

OVERALL:
Remember Seven with Kevin Spacey? Turn him into 7 different animals on canvas that prey upon an innocent family, and you have Art of the Dead. It’s twisted, it’s sick and it’s just damn good amusement!
